MODULAR AUTORIG

How is it modular? What’s the difference with a regular autorig?

The tool is thought and written modular, but the UI showed here only allow the rigger to create a classic human biped.

The tool gives the rigger the possibility to have a great base to start with.

For example, the character has a special right arm: you can just build the whole body without the right arm, and add your own skeleton and rig. It makes the process of rigging more flexible and customizable.

How to get started?

First, we’ll need to create the character. If there isn’t any character, by clicking any body part button, it’ll create one. Once you have your character, you can create whatever you want. For my example, I’ll create all the right and middle body parts.

Mirror joints

I wanted something more intuitive for mirroring. I never know if it should left to right or vice versa, so I thought of something that makes mirroring mor eeasier:

  • If nothing is selected, and the skeleton is lacking body parts, the tool will automatically create the lacking body parts.

  • If all body parts exists and nothing is selected,

the right parts will be mirrored.

  • If you select a body part, your selection will be mirrored.

Orient joints

When you mirror your parts, your joints will automatically be oriented from their parent part joint. If you move your joints and it needs to be reoriented properly, you can click on the orient joints button, it will do the work for you.

Interactive mirror

I always thought it was easier to be able to see your whole skeleton built to move the joints. What’s annoying though, is when you move them, it won’t move in real time the mirrored joints. So I create an interactive mirror option so you can move your joints interactively, like when you are modeling. I think it’s quite easier
to project yourself, and more intuitive !
